Summer Masterclass @ The Lake House

Daylesford Wins Cosiest Town

The 2014 Australian Traveller’s People’s Choice Award for the Cosiest Town 2014 was won by Daylesford. The region’s mineral spas, fantastic restaurants, beautiful places to stay and the opportunity to curl up in front a winter fire all contributed to the award. All the plaudits here – Daylesford – The Cosiest Town 2014!

Glenlyon Handmade Xmas Fair

There’ll be a Farmers Market, Craft Market , stalls of all sorts, food, music from the Daylesford Swing Band and The Cartwheels and even a jumping castle to entertain the kids while you shop for those one-of-a-kind gifts. The Glenlyon Hall on Barkly Street will be the centre of attention from 5 to 9 pm on Saturday 6th December 2014. Pack the picnic blanket and take it all in.

Daylesford Boat House Cafe Re-Opening

The re-built Daylesford Boat House Cafe will open its doors next week, two years after it was destroyed by fire. The new cafe will provide outdoor dining and a restaurant area and feature history from Lake Daylesford. There will be a strong focus on home made food that is offered quickly. Pipes, Drums and Tartan, What better time to visit Daylesford

Central Victoria’s Daylesford is known for its fine food and wine, its mineral springs and its luxury. On the first Saturday in December, Daylesford becomes known for its tartan, its kilts, its bagpipes, dancers, shortbread and Clan Tents when Daylesford Highland Gathering takes over. If the sound of the bagpipes makes the hair stand up on the back of your neck, you are in for a treat. The gathering commences with a street parade featuring Victoria’s best pipers and highland bands in Daylesford’s main street with hundreds of spectators, many in kilts, lining the footpaths before heading up to Victoria Park to continue its music, dancing and Scottish History. Passing Clouds Wine Release

While it’s Vote Day, Sat 29 Nov 14 is also the day for the annual wine release at Passing Clouds Winery. And just because it’s the 40th birthday – yes, 40th! – of the winery, all the wines will be released on the day. A refundable $10 gets you a tasting glass and then it’s up to you to delight your taste buds with your preferred vintage. Peony Paddock Picnic Days

A lovely way to spend a spring day – a frolic in the flowers and a picnic with friends. The Spring Hill Peony Farm opens its gates to the public on Sat 22nd and Sat 29th Nov 2014 for you to do just that. Gates are open 10 am – 4 pm, well behaved doggies on a lead also welcome – byo doggie bags please – and suggest you wear comfy flat-soled shoes to make the most of picking your own peonies. Open Studios – Daylesford & Macedon Ranges

A host of artists will open their studios for the first three weekends in November. Opportunities abound to discover the creative works happening in the region. Blackwood Festival of Music & Culture

The inaugural festival takes places 7-9th November 2014 at the Blackwood Recreation Reserve. Blackwood is just 30 minutes from Daylesford and the Festival will feature, among other genres, bluegrass, country, Blues and Irish for your listening pleasure. More info here – Blackwood Music Festival.

Daylesford Art Show

The annual show, running for 27 years, happens from 31 Oct to 2 Nov 2014. More than 2000 people went through the doors last year and this year promises just as much. Maldon Folk Festival

Forty one festivals and counting! A town steeped in history, Maldon is classified by the National Trust and hosts its 41st Folk Festival from 31 Oct to 3rd Nov 2014. Bullarto Goat Festival

All things goat are happening in Bullarto on 26th Oct 2014 when the Bullarto Primary School hosts its annual Goat Festival. A $5 entry gets you access for the day. There’ll be stalls, cooking demonstrations and “meet the goats”. The Festival takes places at the school at 131 Bullarto South Road. Call 5348 5559 for more details. You might even win the raffle!

Hanging Rock Craft Market

Holiday shopping! Visit one of the region’s best Craft Markets on 26th Oct 2014. A great stop on the way home after a weekend in Daylesford. Daylesford Wine Show

The annual Daylesford Wine Show judging is on 20th Oct 2014. Tastings of all wines takes places 25th Oct 2014 at the Senior Citizens Hall (rear of the Daylesford Town Hall) between 1 and 4 pm. Fancy a ride on the rails?

Daylesford is home to one of the premier heritage railways in Victoria – the Silver Streak. A hardworking group of volunteers keep the train rolling and the history alive. The train departs from the Sunday Market – details at  Daylesford Spa Country Railway Victoria.

Vincent Street Maker’s Market!

The inaugural Vincent Street Maker’s Market will be held 1st June 2014 at Daylesford Town Hall from 10 AM to 4 PM. The Town Hall is located at 76 Vincent Street and the market promises a great display of local handcrafted creations. Check out Vincent St Makers Market for more info. And if you are in town on the first Saturday of the month, check out the Daylesford Farmers’ Market at the Primary School oval – 9 AM to 1 PM.


Of Gods and Love… an exhibition by local artist Richard Payne

Daylesford Chef among top chefs at Golden Plate Awards

Nine top chefs from the goldfields region came together for a cook-off challenge on Monday as part of the Golden Plate awards. All chefs were charged with the task of cooking an entree & main course for four judges using only the ingredients provided in a ‘mystery box’. Daylesford entrant Richard Mee from Mercato was representing Daylesford and surrounds and awards project manager Pamela Jewson was quoted as saying ‘their passion and creativity they showed was fantastic’. Winners receive a business-class return trip to Europe sponsored by Garuda Airlines.


Open Studio season for Daylesford & Macedon Ranges 2013

35 artists open their studios for six days during November 2013, giving the public a chance to see ‘behind the scenes’ of the creative process, and meet the artists in their creative spaces in Daylesford and the Macedon Ranges while learning about their work and inspiration. “Visiting artists in their studios is a privilege which gives great insight into the way they create their work.
